General
[livejournal.com profile] ursulav - Further thoughts on fan fiction... - A month ago, I would have rejected fan fic with a wave of the hand--then I actually read some, and now I am...well, I feel somewhat different.

[livejournal.com profile] viciouswishes - You're Messing with My OCD, Fandom. You Wanna Fight? - This afternoon, I've read two very well-written SGA gen team fics. These are gen fics, gen fics were the authors stuck a couple bits of G-rated McShep moments and PG-rated McShep innuendos in them. This messes up my categorization. // It also makes me curious just why those authors put them in there.

[livejournal.com profile] cereta - Icon maybe appropriate: fanfic and creator's wishes and authors and fanfic part II - You find our that the author of a book series you really like strongly opposes fanfic. He/she finds the very idea offensive/upsetting, and she/he is very vocal about not wanting it written. What would you do?

[livejournal.com profile] monkeycrackmary - Oh, look, a CAN OF WORMS! Let's watch Mary open it again! :D - There are certainly male characters I'm fond of; that's no revelation to anyone reading this, I'm sure. But I want Sarah Connor as well as Mad Max; Zoe as well as Jayne; Jessica Jones as well as John Constantine, Stephanie Brown as well as Tim Drake. I want the option to identify with a female to be available to me.

[livejournal.com profile] wemblee - yeah, I'm gonna regret this... - But when debates about misogyny in fandom, or in source texts, roll around, as much as I enjoy those debates for the most part, I often leave feeling like I'm a bad feminist since I always identified with those male characters reflexively.

Fandom-Specific
Cut for possible spoilers in Torchwood fandom. )

Polls, Questions, Other
[livejournal.com profile] tamar_rowe - Matchings - a basic tutorial - So, I did what I did with Statistics - find an application and think in terms of achieving the purpose. And I did that with Matchings - an algorithm group used to generate the largest combination of pairs in a group.

[livejournal.com profile] jarrow272 in [livejournal.com profile] vidding - Poll: Vidding Habits - I wonder just how much time people are spending watching vids (and how much time spent watching vs time spent making).
