General
[livejournal.com profile] aynathie - ...it still has some growing up to do... - So, after I posted so enthusiastically about the notification/tracking system this morning, I found out very soon that it's not as good as I thought. Specifically, it's more invasive than I had imagined.

Specific-Fandom

On Creating and Criticism
[livejournal.com profile] icarusancalion - How Shave Off Those Serial Numbers: De-fanficcing Fanfic - The process of "de-fanficcing" a story, i.e., sawing off the serial numbers and turning fanfiction into original fiction, is much more than simply changing names and developing some backstory.

Polls, Questions, Other
[livejournal.com profile] prillalar - Does fanfic turn into a pumpkin at midnight? - I can see not bothering to read somebody's post about their aspidistra or how they really hate that new barrista at Starbucks because you have too many posts to go through in the morning and not enough time. But do people really do that with fic? Do you do that with fic?

[livejournal.com profile] rachel_martin64 in [livejournal.com profile] fanthropology - Feedback - Do fan authors even want privately emailed feedback anymore? Do they prefer reader comments posted publicly to LJ or ff.net because of the advertisement value?

[livejournal.com profile] norwich36 - Icons and individuality - I was thinking of doing that meme that's been going around, where you ask people on your f-list to post pictures of people to represent their mental image of you, but then I thought that since something like 70% of the icons I use on a regular basis (including my default) are of Chloe Sullivan, that's probably the mental picture most people have of me.
