...it still has some growing up to do... - So, after I posted so enthusiastically about the notification/tracking system this morning, I found out very soon that it's not as good as I thought. Specifically, it's more invasive than I had imagined.

how Jk Rowling's shoddy "world creation" leads to fanfiction - Basically, one of my theses is the reason there is so much harry potter fanfiction out there is because the world jkr has created is filled with holes, inconsistencies and dangling pieces.

Fandom is serious business! - Actually, I'm just left puzzled and wondering why is HP a fandom of such extremes?

How Shave Off Those Serial Numbers: De-fanficcing Fanfic - The process of "de-fanficcing" a story, i.e., sawing off the serial numbers and turning fanfiction into original fiction, is much more than simply changing names and developing some backstory.

Does fanfic turn into a pumpkin at midnight? - I can see not bothering to read somebody's post about their aspidistra or how they really hate that new barrista at Starbucks because you have too many posts to go through in the morning and not enough time. But do people really do that with fic? Do
you do that with fic?

Icons and individuality - I was thinking of doing that meme that's been going around, where you ask people on your f-list to post pictures of people to represent their mental image of you, but then I thought that since something like 70% of the icons I use on a regular basis (including my default) are of Chloe Sullivan, that's probably the mental picture most people have of me.

Discussion: Fandom's influence on real world opinions

Very often, your fannish experiences have an impact on your opinions. I'm very interested in this, especially as it relates to fannish opinions on sexuality and social issues versus real-life opinions on same.

OK. My comment went through so the objection is totally withdrawn.
PS. Do you keep getting "cannot reply to a non existent comment"? I keep having to reload the pages and post and repost.
