Ignoring Barbie and Madge for Ken and... um, Ken? Most of us are slashers. Not so many, however, are femmeslashers. Which is odd, because the staggering majority of us are women, and a large number of us are two or higher on the Kinsey scale. However, again and again, we ignore Barbie and Madge, in favour of Ken and... hell, I dunno, G.I. Joe. (Crossovers, baby.) Why is this?

Looking at Films from the Couch - Star Wars and Genre Films I suspect that simple reduction to "big-picture psychologies" is enough to sustain one movie, but it is no compliment to an audience's intelligence to suggest that Star Wars fans are happy to see these two themes play out again and again in an enormous arc without any other deeply-resonating, engaging and involving themes.
