The Essay That Wasn't - Part I | The Essay That Wasn't, Part II | The Essay That Wasn't, Part III | The Essay That Wasn't - Addendum
Over the course of her seven-year career Buffy Summers, Vampire Slayer extraordinaire, formerly the Chosen One but now merely one of the Chosen, changed the face of the slaying profession forever.

    I have to rant
Kryptonians don't go into Pon Farr. They don't have a mating cycle of seven years (and if it doesn't happen every seven years it isn't Pon Farr), they don't have pointy ears or green blood (as seen in Extinction), and they sure as hell don't suppress and control their emotions - watch one ep of Smallville and tell me Clark supresses his emotions and I'll wonder what ep you watched.

    On misogyny
n fact, I submit that statements like this are actually reverse misogyny, and here's why: the prevailing attitude that seems to underlie a statement like that is since the majority of us are women ourselves, we should somehow find all of the female characters compelling enough to enjoy reading/writing about them simply because they are women.

Religion and Sexual Orientation (Except Not How You'd Think)
A while back, I posted in a discussion on why there seems to be a double standard between slashing a (presumed) straight character and putting a canonically gay character in a heterosexual pairing.

Poll: Reading and / or writing Slash
I posted here a few days ago about a survey that indicated that more people write slash than read it.

    META-ESSAY: A shipper's view of the Giles&Xander relationship
I'm going to talk about the way their relationship shifts and changes from S1 to S7, and talk in a little more depth about different aspects of it. Sound daunting? Yeah, it does to me, too. Let's get started.

Canon - Getting Closer and some theory thoughts
Only three and a half months before we get our mits on more canon. I have to admit it will be fun nitpicking over every teeny tiny nuance of behaviour (especially around Snape!) and wondering what it proves and what it all means.

(forget men-- gimme some hot tree lovin'!)
Sometimes it's really hard to tell where me reading too much into things stops and people being stupid begins. I mean, I know I'm oversensitive, but I also know that underneath all the PC phrasing & surface politeness one sees in print media, at least, there's still a lot of messed up thinking going on.

Slashy Nominations 113: Give Me Smut and Nothing But
So, you know, the slashiest fandoms post is coming right along, and my fear of it is also advancing in leaps and bounds, because if there's one thing you don't want to do in a LJ, it's tell someone that her fandom is not as slashy as this other fandom over here which she is not an actual follower of, and, as I said, no one but me and, like, three other people follow Shadow Hearts.

Better to burn out than to fade away
I got to thinking about the vids I've seen and how often a fade out is used at the end, and I couldn't think of any that ended that way, although I'm sure there's some.

    Plagiarism, both large and small
Plagiarism is stealing someone else's words and/or ideas and presenting them as your own. In some cases, this is very obvious (I'm thinking of the situation last year when someone posted a bunch of PotC stories, by various authors, on her website as her own work). In others, it isn't as clear.
