For the time being, at least, that's still the policy -- we're not linking to off-LJ discussion except in extraordinary circumstances. It's just ugly happenstance that we had two such sets of extraordinary circumstances in the space of the past couple of weeks.
Given the way the landscape is changing, I wouldn't want to assert that the policy is set in stone and will never be reviewed. But as of this moment, there are no plans to change it.
And if it ever should change, we will of course be desperately grateful to have relevant links brought to our attention. It's a big, big world out there, and it's tough enough trying to just cover LJ.

Of course, this would require more fandom-assistance, since it is a great big wide internet world out there. :) But, given all the craziness with people going every which way, I would like to see the policy changed, with the understanding that fandom would have to help all of you out even more. :)
