evieeros: NSFW MPreg Discussion and Condom Discussion - Why Gay Partners Would Continue To Use Condoms Despite Testing/Being Clean or Reasons to Use Condoms During Anal Sex (Hetero or Homo) -
vaznetti: in which I am old... - Whatever the technical definition of a Mary Sue, I feel that its use as a bludgeon to discourage the insertion of original characters into fanfic represents a real problem. I would like to see the question "Is this a Mary Sue?" replaced by a more useful question. Perhaps, "Is this a well-rounded, interesting character whose presence in the story contributes to the storyline and the canon universe?" -
wintercreek: A Question. - I have seen some references to the Mary-Sue-as-self-insertion and furthermore the Mary-Sue-as-self-insertion-awesome-enough-to-allow-the-author-to-vicariously-get-with-the-desired-male-character.Now what I want to know is, are there stories out there in which Mary Sue sweeps a female character off her feet? -
elz: The great unknown - Fanfiction.net has sorting and filtering on their fandom pages now! They may have for a while and I just hadn't noticed. But I love me some numbers. -
nicki: On writing women - Strictly speaking, of course, the accepted technical definition seems to be that a Mary Sue is an original character in fanfic who is more perfect than perfection itself, who everyone loves and who sparkles and is good at everything (without effort) and can do actual evil and still be considered angelic.Functionally speaking, however, Mary Sue has become any woman character who ever did anything. Especially if she gets the guy/gal of her choice while doing it. -

Metafandom's intent is to follow current conversations as they are happening in fandom, as such we only link to current posts, preferably within a few days of them being posted, but definitely within a month at the outside.
If you wanted to make a new post linking to some of the older discussions on the topic and discussion them in relation to this current conversation, I would be happy to link to that.
