- schmevil: Your fandom is not Fandom - That is to say: everybody does fandom differently. Fandom is not fanworks fandom. It is not media fandom, SF fandom, or whatever fandom. It is all of these things and more. There exist fandoms and ways of doing fandom that you have never heard of. Fandom is mindbogglingly huge and varied - I'm constantly discovering new fandoms, and new fannish activities. All of these ways of doing Fandom are valid. -

- noracharles: On the accessibility of fandom fests - Enforcing rules without causing anxiety attacks is a very tricky matter, and random supporters should not be encouraged to enforce rules through social pressure. -
- sistermagpie: A Nerd Fallacy - Basically, it sometimes seem to work like this: If you've got two characters and one of them has more qualities that map more closely onto the "nerd" stereotype, that's the character more people will identify with, and sometimes he'll then be characterized more like the fan. Then in subtle or not so subtle ways, he'll be seen as superior. -
- musesfool: i've run out of gods to burn - I think part of the problem is semantic - at least, to me, constructive criticism ("concrit") is for the writer (or other writers reading and hoping to learn from the criticism). Critique and reviews (and recs) are for readers. -
- ceitean: demographics in animanga fandom - no, really, they're important - But sometimes I don't think people realize the implications, that the typical Yaoi FanGurl is a real girl, probably around 13-16 years old. She's learning about sexuality during a constant, nasty, real struggle over gay rights (plus the buckets of homophobia that are dumped all over it), and lives in a world where female sexuality is exploited in the media, but repressed in real life. -
- rydra_wong: "Transformative works" news of note - I'm not entirely sure whether my primary point in posting this is to say, "Hey, excellent fic over here" or "How come it's all serious and respectable when he does it?" or "Hmm, iiiiiinteresting" or "People, when it comes to keeping fanfic out of the public awareness, the horse has not only left the stable, it is now galloping towards the horizon." Possibly all of the above. -
