mamadeb: Gendercrossing Cliche - Of course, "Yay! I'm not gay!" is probably a reasonable reaction for that particular character in that place and time. Or even later, thinking about Chris in the Morning on Northern Exposure and his crush on the monk who turned out to be female. -
isiscolo: this fucking shit pisses me the hell off...I dislike stories in which there is a shitload great deal of profanity, for two reasons.
ediblestars: Hey, look, I'm a part of something! Neat! - The impact of really good fanfic, to me, has nothing to do with the fact that it's fanfic and everything to do with the fact that it's really good. -
mofic: Sexual Orientation Identity Labels, in Slash and in Real Life - Bisexuality is not the only option for people with histories of sexual behavior with members of both sexes[...]we do our characters and ourselves a disservice if we make it the default rather than carefully considering what works with our concepts of the -
amireal: In which we talk about definitions and paths and all the stuff in between. - historically one way does not mean definitely that way for all time. Ever. It means that its roots stem from this place and with that comes certain intrinsic ideals, goals, desires and story telling. Valuing that history doesn't devalue anything else -

witchqueen: What I learned about tone - People came up with a few different examples. One of them did not fit my explicit criteria. Several others did not fit my implicit criteria: in mediafandom and online. Those examples that did fit all five criteria pre-dated livejournal. -
irisbleufic: Midnight Help-Desk never fared very well in its other life, but maybe it'll fare better here. - In fandom, we have an advantage that commercial writers don't, and that's genuine real-time interaction with our readers (be it on LiveJournal, mailing lists, IM, etc.) - if, that is, you consider it an advantage. -
fairestcat: How I Beta - Betaing is an odd process, I honestly have no idea how my process compares to anybody else's, so my question for the betas and writers on my friendslist is, how does this compare to your beta process? -
