trascendenza: Identifiers, communities, and language, oh my! (i.e. a few of my thoughts on the usage of bandom) - What is of paramount importance to me is that no matter the circumstances, we cannot tell someone else what they are feeling or who they are. We cannot tell someone you are/are not feeling excluded or you are/are not a member of [x]. -
sidewinder: In the continuing terminology saga of bandom...Another suggestion has sprung forth, which I really like:
MEDIA BANDOM
Thoughts?
dracothelizard: I'm crazy flowing over with ideas -In the interest of science and curiosity I have done some fiddling with the adult concepts and explicit adult content filters to see what happens in different circumstances.
hairyears: Journal - A few notes on the latest LJ Drama - Why do I even need to explain this? Content-flagging protects the hosting company: if children see 'adult' material, someone will sue and try to shut down the service. -
sidewinder: Have we got contact - Can this be made any clearer?I don't care what band you're into . . . It's simply about disliking a sort of "take over" of terminology that should be used broadly, to apparently only apply within certain limitations.
tiamatschild: So, once again, LJ is beta testing clunky ideas on the user base at large... - I don't understand the notion of "adult concepts" and never have. Is it just a matter of the â˜conceptâ™ being sufficiently sugar coated and approached appropriately obliquely, if at all? I donâ™t get it. I just really donâ™t get it, and no amount of -
snegurochka_lee: On con-crit for anon authors/artists - My personal opinion on con-crit is that it should be reserved for those who have asked to receive it, or delivered in private.... // But IMO, the atmosphere is different for anon posts, and there are two reasons for this: -
furiosity: zu den Sternen leitet sie - The story you've just read was written for someone very specific, using their very specific requests. It's not for you, the way fics posted normally are (theoretically) aimed at you as part of the audience. -
parthenia14: on the present troubles - There are age limits and age restrictions everywhere in our societies. We don't let 13 year olds into X rated movies, or sell them alcohol, no matter how mature they say they are; and there are age limits or content limits all over the internet. -
elfwreck: Translation of LJ News Post - MEANING: Six Apart sold LJ to the guys who've been running LJ-in-Russia for a few years now. They have an American office. This probably means that Nova Eljay will be under US legal jurisdiction, but no answers to questions about legalities ...yet. -
stewardess: From Russia, With No Love - Based on the reaction of the Russian LJ members back in October of 2006, when SUP bought the contract to operate Livejournal in Russia, this is an incredibly fucked development. -
brad: I, for one, welcome our new Russian Overlords. - Now I get to sit back and watch all the community reactions and conspiracy theories. I can't wait to see what everybody hypothesizes about the Kremlin, Jews, etc. Always fun to watch. -
solarbird: SUP, a Russian company, buys Livejournal - a Russian company owned by a former Yeltsin crony has bought Livejournal. ETA: NO. REALLY. THIS REALLY HAPPENED. THIS IS NOT IRONY OR PARODY. Here're a selected bunch of initial reactions pulled mostly out of the English-language announcement post on news -
hieronymousb: On fandom and lurking - I feel like if most people adopt the idea that lurking is preferable to not lurking, then I feel like the fandom will continue to decline more. Fandom is about interaction. It's about talking and communicating and jointly producing. -
wemyss: LJ, SUP, Putin, the Kremlin, and its creatures. - Six Apart have effectively sold LJ to Vladimir Putin* and his puppets. Even as you slept, your paid accounts may have helped fund the disappearance or murder of a dissident, or another transfer of nuclear weapons technology to Teheran -
kyuuketsukirui: On fic exchanges - I thought the point of writing an exchange fic was to write something both you and the recipient were happy with. I can't imagine writing something I thought was bad writing, bad characterisation, or that I just didn't like. -
pir8fancier: The flagging thing now makes sense - This flagging is nothing more than a simple means to track dissidents. I don't think it has ANYTHING to do with adult content or offensive material. There already IS a mechanism for reporting offensive material. -
