umbo: more thoughts on the incest discussions - I have deeply held and deeply considered beliefs, and those beliefs include the idea that some kinds of fiction, among other things, have definite, negative effects on people and on the world, whether or not those effects are measurable or conscious. -
telesilla: Meta: Blurring the fannish lines - Her example was the infamous "sex box" incident[...]Is it that we feel somehow closer to these people because of the online connections that this kind of thing happens and will it happen more, the more we feel like these people are our friends? Meta: somedays I have it in me to be all wordy and thoughtful yet more meta: On Validation; or why I couldn't care less about what the mainstream thinks. -
seperis: blah. sundays. *again* - There's something very uncomfortable in the idea that we'll turn on each other, in groups, as individuals, to claim our normality by condemning them (whoever 'them' may be) for the sake of a nebulous "mainstream". -
addictedkitten: on concrit / sex in fanfiction / people hating on porn and why that hurts my feelings - I think the main trouble with concrit in fandom is that most people have no idea whatsoever how to give it, and so instead of giving concrit, they give crit. And who the hell wants to receive unhelpful criticism? -
damned_colonial: Fanarchive, the GPL, and Creative Commons - I said this in my volunteer email, but Iâ™ll reiterate it here: I strongly believe that the only way to make this archive work is to design it in such a way that, in the case of emergency, anyone can pick it up and keep it going. -
ataniell93: Artistic Truth and Responsibility.... - If the story does its job, then it's a good story, and not all stories are therapists--some of them are leathermen, some of them are wide-eyed innocents, some of them are teachers, and some of them are porn stars. -
azurelunatic: Celebration of Mary Sue, or, Writing Advice I Could Have Used at Age 14. - I wonder if the world needs a guide intended for young fanfic writers on the topic of "So you want to write Mary Sue stories" -- I probably could have used one, and I know a rather lot of the young ladies out there writing them could use them -
stefanie_bean: When do warning tags become spoilers? - As a writer of fanfiction, I worry that these warnings arise from perhaps a lack of trust between the fanfiction writer and her audience, compared to a published author. -
