secrets_and_lie: benefits of fanfic for the writer
Usually people begin by writing fanfiction. Then sometimes, if they discover it sparks a passion, they move to original fiction.
Me, I've done it the other way around.tellitslant: [legitimacy and other carrots to dangle] - Then I looked at the FanLib FAQ and, well, I'm not sure whether to be reassured or more disturbed. -
southernbangel: An open letter to the BtVS/AtS fandom - Fanon does not trump canon. Full stop. Let me repeat: fanon does not trump canon. In a wrestling contest between canon and fanon as to which one is more accurate, canon pwns fanon's ass *completely*. -
emory_lee: Making fanfic an "honest" business - In a way, the timing of this fanlib thing couldn't be better as it ties into something I want to throw out to the fan community and see what the reactions are. -
nakeisha: Current Show Fandom - being in current show fandom is more exhausting, in my opinion and experience, than being in non-current show fandom.[SPOILERS for NCIS] -
ladybracknell: Who's for a McFic Sandwich? - There's a vast swathe of people who don't want a well-crafted, thoughtful story.[...]They just want more, now.//What they want is McFic. -
worldserpent: "stealing ideas" - If it were just the wish to be cited as the source (even though the source is really technically the meme), I could understand that, that people should deserve recognition for ideas; however, my philosophy tends to be that while text itself is actionable, -
cesperanza: Dear Fandom: Could You Please Stop Saying That? - it would be a good idea for you not to air your (erroneous) belief that fanfiction is illegal in public. Because if I were the other side's lawyer, I'd say, "Look! See! They themselves think it's illegal." -
fandrogyny: post rec: slash and fanboys - I never think of slash writers as particularly masculine, but I don't think of them as particularly feminine, either. I think of them as slash writers. Some of them can be amazingly assertive, independent, and dominant. -
lotesseflower: Feeling Ranty - This is why I donâ™t think that fic should ever be mentioned to TPTB, [...]Itâ™s not that I think we need to hide away because weâ™re perverts; itâ™s that I donâ™t trust them not to screw us over. -
seperis: what is really getting to me is the assumptions - And the continuing saga of MJ the Comiquette continues.[...]because honestly, people online--from my observation--tend to be *more* active online in things like this because they also assist social issues and services in their offline lives as well. -
