Smallville - A Bitter Disappointment - You've got a guy from another planet, right? With freaky differences and stuff. So surely the first thing an author is going to reach for is the alien penis! And yet... so far, other than an occasional self-lubricating cock (and damned few of those, too!), I've come up totally empty handed. How disappointing!

Pairing conversion thanks to a fanfic - Have you ever been 'converted' to a pairing by a fanfic?

Fanfic critique - So a few suggestions on how to offer critique to a fan author – how to offer critique in general, but particularly within the context of fandom. For those occasions when a piece of fanwork really gets to you, but there are things you don’t like about it and you want to express your full, honest opinion. Or, best of all, you’d like to engage the author in a conversation about it.

revolution slash-style now? - I want to argue even more strongly now, that slash *is* political, because everything is.

A rather disjointed ramble: art, bad anatomy, and critical commenting - Nothing throws me out of an art piece faster than an anatomic error.

Not gonna argue on someone else's journal... not gonna argue... not gonna... etc... - I always claim that if something doesn't have trashy theme at the heart of it - I refuse to read it. This is because it looses its own sense of fun, frivolity and flaw.

Can Republicans be slashers? - I wish that it existed, because it might mean that somewhere, somehow, there's a Republican slasher. She's holed up in a Red State, staying up late writing purple prose about the reversal of the Presidental power dynamic, in which the President is stereotypical bottom whose stammering "no" really means "yes," and Dick Cheney brings new meaning to the term "scattershot to the face." She knows that she loves imagining gay sex, but what thrills her is that the sex is dirty and wrong and forbidden -- and thus unworthy of marriage, which she thinks should belong to straights only. And maybe she wants tax reform and more money for defence, and maybe she's even behind the war, but maybe she's also at heart a woman who loves seeing Dick really give it to Bush.

The "male gaze," feminism, and slash in the Daily Show - My point, I suppose, is to contrast the GAYGAYGAY of the show and its attitudes toward its female correspondents, with the GAYGAYGAY of the slasher's viewpoint which is *very* much a female space. And to contrast TDS/TCR the show with TDS/TCR the fandom space.

A musing of sorts. - My britches get knotted often. One thing that gets them to Gorgon proportions is the attempt to analyze manga in the context of the mostly American market, especially when one places manga in a box of, "It's just different from American comics."
