LJ: postcards from Yuletide - So here's my personal guide to enjoying the Yuletide experience.

Keeping it in the family: a question of fandom incest - I have one main observation on the topic, and it is this: some fandoms seems much more inclined towards yielding specific
types of incest!fic than others. (This covers fandoms where the incest is canon, as well as fandoms where it is not.)

Canon slash - Let's just imagine, your OTP (or fav pairing, however) became a couple at the end an ep. Not just a subtext-couple, but a real canon couple, with "I love you" and kissing and fade-to-black. Of course we'd all have keeled over with glee. But what then?

You know... - So at the risk of hacking people off anew -- enh, no, I'm not thumping any bibles or, you know, flinging ashes in my hair or anything -- if we can be so eloquent about alternately explaining/defending Wincest, using the tried-and-true "if you don't like it, just don't read it" (I saw a DL;DR thing someplace in there -- I love that! Perfect!) policy, why do we accepting folks still hammer away at things like mpreg?

Not just a good idea... DL?DR, or why are you bitching about this anyway? - I admit I'm old-fashioned, I like certain things, and I don't go far beyond my comfort range, but I don't do that when I buy a mainstream book, either. Mpreg and incest just aren't my things, but people should write what they want to, especially in fandom where you're not doing it to make a living.

untitled - That's a little awe inspiring, a heck of an ego boost, and a reminder to me that the archivists, betas, rec-cers, meta-writers, and
readers are the unsung heros of fandom. Their time, energy, dedication and enthusiasm are too often overlooked, but they are the backbone and heart of fandom.

Has Your Fic Abducted You? - You are typing along, minding your own business, when, suddenly, your fic highjacks you. It takes you to a Very Dark Place. Or, it takes you to a Very Different Place. It makes you do things to your characters that you have never done to them before.

Fannish Migration Patterns - We (
holli and
petronelle) were wondering about whether there are patterns in fans' movements from fandom to fandom, particularly whether history in one fandom means one is more likely to join another.
