A true story - The more I run into comics people who are eager to tell me my tastes are crap, the more I think, "FUCK COMICS." Superhero comics may not be a dead-end minor art form best left to expire with the century of their birth, but damned if their biggest proponents don't seem set on making them seem that way.
marginalia:
[also? i never got my peanuts.] - in one corner we have sga bitching about the shortage of rare pairs, and in the other we have ds wanking madly over an abundance of a particular rare pair. and i say unto thee: "WTF" and "FANDOM MAKE UP YOUR GODDAMNED MIND".
nakeisha:
A curious warning - Why do some people put 'Slash M/M or Slash F/F' as a warning? // To me, it seems a strange thing for which to warn, especially when the pairing has been clearly listed.
musesfool:
i tried to give you consolation - The bottom line is this - anyone can make recs. If you are not seeing the stories you love getting love, then DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, don't sit around with your thumb up your ass, complaining about how great story A is, and it sure would be nice if someone recced it.
penknife:
On recs, both mine and seasonal - People like what they like, and people read what they feel like reading, and sometimes you work your fingers to the bone writing something that no one seems to appreciate at all, and then you end up needing some spiked eggnog to make you feel better about it. But having a meltdown on the Internet about how there is a vast reccing conspiracy to rec the same stories over and over again and ignore the rest of them is one of those things you should fight the impulse to do, like screaming at your relatives on day infinity-minus-one of an overly long holiday visit.

A Guide to Participating in Fic Exchanges, by Someone Who Knows I've participated in fic exchanges as a writer, a pinch-hitter, and as a moderator for three years. I know what goes into them from all angles, and what the mod wants out of participants. Lately, there seems to be some confusion on this issue, so I will attempt to explain.

LiveJournal vs. the mailing list - But did LiveJournal really kill the mailing list? Did it relegate it into the irrelevant for fandom? The answer is no. In fact, it appears that the popularity of LiveJournal in fandom is on the wane and mailing lists are again becoming more popular as fandom strives to reach a new form of equilibrium.

Fandom Size - The purpose of this analysis was to gather data regarding fandom size based on archiving behavior of fans in order to analyze the results.

Supernatural: Does fandom activity correlate to the release of canon? - No strong correlations anywhere. Not what I thought. It was what the people I other wise bugged and annoyed on AIM thought. It does help to explain the idea though possibly why fandoms continue long after the show goes off the air... because no correlation between airing of stuff and fan activity.

RPF - I would like to actually consider
more about RPF and why I find it a genuinely fascinating avenue of both fannishness and writing.

Grading Hell Theater: - Today, on Grading Hell Theater: what is the one thing a character or a show that you love could do that would turn you off so fast your head would spin. Conversely, what's the one thing the could do that would make you go even more insane for them?

untitled] - Most people, I think, see BDSM as this otherworldly thing that it totally beyond their grasp to relate to. That's just not true. Even if you've never so much as been blindfolded or held down while you're having sex, you have experiences you can apply....//The key to making the fic believable and enjoyable is not much different than writing anything else. Know what your characters are doing, why they're doing it, and what they're feeling - physically and emotionally - while they're doing it. Then write it.

Is Crack!Fic keeping you from reading any fic at all? - So I was wondering, anyone else feels the same way? Have any of you ever been kept from getting involved on a fandom [a fandom you heartly enjoy too] because you just don't think you can deal with the Crack 'n Crazy?

Word count updates and a Fun Activity Poll - Having had a lot of opportunity for length estimations as of late, I'm finding I'm starting to get pretty good at it. Once I've figured out the main plot, that is....// I'm curious how others do (if they do at all).
