General Fandom Meta
isiscolo nontext pairings - As transgressive as slash supposedly is, I think that these pairings are even more transgressive, because they ignore the canon story to focus on the canon characters. It seems to me that this is the whole point of this sort of pairing, that we fans see the characters as real, as separate from the story in which they live, and that implies that they have whole other lives separate from that story, where perhaps they might encounter each other, and interesting things might happen.
damo_in_japan Talking Meta - Canon, to us comic book fans, is a complicated thing. Not only because there are constantly new things being added to the canon, but also because there are constantly old things being taken from the canon.
jennyo don't look away - I'm actually a little depressed by this. Not even really just the blinding whiteness of fan favorites compared to mainstream USian TV, because *shrug*. That's got years of science fiction history tied up in it. But what's really painful is that you really can look at any fannish show-text that has more than a token character of color and watch people slowly turn on it, the higher the diversity goes and the less token and marginalized the non-white, non-male people are.
gunderpants fandom: you suck, again - The general modus operandii for this procedure is that one hapless sap will submit a fic to him and he will rip it to shreds: not on writing ability, but on whether, as a gay male, he finds it hot, or if he finds the writing good enough. Never mind that what turns people on is subjective and depends on the person: what might be sexy to one person might be squicky to another. Totally cool, right?
mskatej GAY!!! - I love it when actors come out. It’s both interesting gossip and a positive thing for the gay community. I don’t buy the argument that it’s none of our business what famous people do in the bedroom, especially when slebs like Tom Cruise go to such great lengths to hide their sexuality

paulasj Basic Dialogue Punctuation - Dialogue is a bit of a beast for new writers. And punctuation of dialogue seems to be the biggest area for slip-ups, even among old hands. Here are the basics.
Polls, Links or Questions
lcsbanana *facepalm* - I WAS CURIOUS OKAY. so, uh, here is a poll about buttsex, involving your own personal butt, if you are a woman(but no MTFs, please, prostates skew data!). For values of 'buttsex'=sticking things up there, regardless of size.
yourlibrarian Slash is going mainstream? - Given other recent events such as a crackdown by the U.S. Justice Department on written online porn, how concerned should fandoms be about the attention that is increasingly paid to slash from outside the fandom?
monkiedude Perhaps from the PUKING. - And now, a little poll. KIDFIC. Embrace the shame. None of this, "well, with a good author I can buy anything" baloney. Assume it's a good author, or one you'd read, at least.
