[livejournal.com profile] the_con_cept - Meta--Why Slash? Why Now? Do you think, historically, women were or would have been interested in slash? Would they have participated in writing the sort of stories we write today? Would they, without the cultural taboo, have felt the flutter of slashy desire? Do you think the desire was there, but mostly unexpressed due to the lack of ability to speak with others who might be supportive of their interest?

[livejournal.com profile] fatale - That's right. Another fandom opinion. *yawn* She-who-I-cannot-remember also noted that those women were the exception, not the rule. They're extraordinary women. So are we misogynistic because we enjoy extraordinary female characters? No, not at all. I think that were we presented with more complex women, that our personal values or at least values we can appreciate, then there would be a stronger love for female characters. I don't see the discrepancy between affection for male and female characters a flaw of fandom, I see it is a flaw of the entertainment industry*.

[livejournal.com profile] mskatej - Musings on my online life... In RL I’m not an insecure person. I know my friends love me and will always be there for me. But LJ (or, I imagine, any kind of online community) breeds insecurities I thought I’d left behind in high school.

[livejournal.com profile] cupidsbow - Canonical Characterisation in SGA I mean, aren't all takes on the characters equally valid? What is it that I'm doing that's clicking with people? Is there some kind of "range" of characterisation, and stories which fall closest to the centrepoint are seen as more authentic? Or is there some other thing going on, like the fannish zeitgeist, and I'm just more influenced by the hivemind than other writers?

[livejournal.com profile] graumoewe - Copyright vs. free culture Maybe, just maybe it is not the wisest decision for fandom to keep our heads down as long as the legal ground concerning fanworks and copyright is uncertain, as we might not be able to ever get them up again.

[livejournal.com profile] midnitemaraud_r - Well I'm a virgin, I'm a blue movie, I'm a bitch... I write slash fiction. Slash is not gay porn, though they do share certain elements when the slash story actually includes sex. Again, because apparently I can't say it enough, I write what I enjoy writing, and the types of stories I write are also a subset of the types of stories I enjoy reading. I like what I like, and I like that all of you like what you like.

[livejournal.com profile] khriskin - On the Nature of Drabbles So you'd think there would be a wide range of themes, right? But looking back over the fan fiction drabbles I've written, almost all of them go for the joke or the emotional impact. And a negative emotional impact at that.

[livejournal.com profile] telesilla - You Can Write If You Want To So it's a music and writing poll. And please, if you have anything to add, do so! [POLL]
