[livejournal.com profile] regan_v - Wanting To Be Happy: Desire, Porn, and Romance in Slash Fanfiction So. Erotic fanfiction can stimulate desire, stoke it and feed it. Can lead us to a place of happiness, giving us a safe place to experience feeling desired and feeling happy. Can help us see how others experience desire, and how they see relationships and happiness. To me, finding a place where you can feel happy, safe, desired and loved . . . well, I cannot see that as anything but a source of grace. And a blessing.

[livejournal.com profile] bluecove - Seven Reasons Why Selling Fanzines* Isn't Bad, Wrong, or Hazardous to Your Fannish Health [S]since this is something I feel very strongly about, I've come up with a list of reasons why (in my informed opinion) I think fanzines are a positive thing, rather than negative, and decided to post it for posterity.

[livejournal.com profile] fabu - In praise of happy endings I like happy endings. There's a lot of bad shit in the world and one of the reasons I indulge in fiction is to get a break from the unending litany of doom on the news. One of the reasons I read and write fanfic is that I love the characters, and because I love them, I want to see things work out well for them. Is that wish fulfillment? Hell, yeah, but that doesn't automatically make it bad story telling.

[livejournal.com profile] iamtheenemy - Some thoughts on beta reading For me those are the most important things that a beta can do for an author. Yes, of course I'm glad that I didn't publish a story where there's a "you're" instead of a "your," but that would be nothing compared to posting a story where, say, John Sheppard comes off sounding like a sixteen year old girl. // This is the type of thing that most authors (myself included) often can't see for themselves, or else realize in retrospect years after they've published the story.

[livejournal.com profile] netninny - Yes, even I come creeping out of the woodwork for the Supernatural premiere [MINOR SPOILERS FOR SPN 2x01] In short...after Smallville leaving me for a younger woman, and Lost becoming thuggish, and House treating my sex with contempt...I'm just not used to having the kind of devoted TV-show-boyfriend that Supernatural is proving itself to be. But this series is showing up at my door punctually every week, freshly showered, bearing treats, and offering me mix tapes of all its favourite music (some with vids already attached!). // Supernatural is courting me--Me! A female who enjoys genre television on a fannish level!
