General:
[livejournal.com profile] telesilla: Well.... — "I know somewhere back a few days ago I said something in my LJ about the Temeaire books not being as emotionally engaging as I'd expect in something written by a slasher/fanfic writer, and I went into a little more detail in a comment about the different ways I react to fiction in Grace's LJ. At this point I'm halfway through the second one, still engaged in the story and still somewhat less engaged in the main human character. I'll reserve my final judgment for when I've finished the books."

[livejournal.com profile] jeddy83: Waffling about novelty and fandom — "I've been thinking about the reasons people shift fandoms or those who are multi-fannish shift fandom priorities for a while now. I imagine it happens for a number of reasons. I seem to remember someone on my friends list - possibly [livejournal.com profile] fabularasa, possibly more than one person - talking about the fannish window closing as canon drew to a close. For me however it is ultimately about novelty."

[livejournal.com profile] livredor: Why tracking is good — "In case you haven't seen it, LiveJournal is gradually rolling out the ability to track or subscribe to or get notifications for (the terminology is inconsistent, unfortunately) various events and conversations around the site. It's paid only at the moment but it's absolutely going to be site wide soon."

[livejournal.com profile] fernwithy: Hermione is not The Girl — "You know, I've heard quite often, usually in the context of R/Hr vs. H/Hr, that until SW, "the hero always got The Girl.""

[livejournal.com profile] darkthirty: Harry and the Potters, Emerson and Melissa - censored by HP Essays - now with links — "Okay, I've of course been hearing about them for a while - didn't catch them at the Vancouver Public Library last year since I knew they were, fankly, unmusical, goofy and boring. But what I said about Pirates II holds for this - it's banal stuff that gets hyped into some kind of cultural acceptance, which I think is really shitty and which has, in fact, taken over much of television itself these days - witness the immense audience still for fantasy TV ("reality TV" they call it). There's a section of Rowling fandom (Rowling Fandom, I repeat) that stands for everything these lame bands do not, and I am certain must suffer fools continuously in the general, cultural register.

[livejournal.com profile] ginmar: The wanker's desire — "So here's what F_Wers want: // Re: it's not avoiding them, that doesn't work // Except its not 'her journal'. That's no doubt on her hard disk, or in a little notebook in her bedside drawer. This is the public internet. If you post opinions, in a medium designed to facilitate comments from third parties, they will disagree, and they will... shock-horror - comment! The fact that they do this may offend your (and her) delicate radfem sensibilities, but that is your problem not theirs."

[livejournal.com profile] lunacy: [mmmm, shrubs!] — "You know what fandom has taught me? // That I don't care as much about what people say as how they say it (meaning, god, I've become anal about bad logic & argument tactics). I mean, I was reading a Jehovah's Witnesses pamphlet yesterday in the Laundry Outing of Doom (with the comforter that REFUSED to wash... or dry) and the thing that bothered me about it (and btw, I used to start twitching at the very idea of Intelligent Design vs Evolution most days) isn't their point but how they totally didn't know a good argument if it bit them on the arse."

[livejournal.com profile] wychwood: Let's-Be-Cheerful-Day — "I was going to complain about my day, but instead I think I shall look on the bright side. // [...] // There's been a bunch of craziness going around about the forums David Hewlett (from Stargate: Atlantis) set up on his new website. (There's an interesting post about it here, for instance, and several more links on [livejournal.com profile] metafandom.)"

Reading, writing, vidding, criticism:
[livejournal.com profile] herowlness in [livejournal.com profile] veronicamarsfic: Should LJ have copyright-like rights over your fanfics? — "THE OFFICIAL-SOUNDING STUFF // The United States delegation to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has been one of the strongest supporters of efforts to create a new intellectual property right for broadcasters and cablecasters through a new WIPO treaty. If adopted, the treaty would give broadcasters, cablecasters and potentially webcasting companies 50 years of copyright-like rights over anything they transmit, including public domain and Creative Commons-licensed works. It would also give broadcasters legal protection to use technology to lock down content, giving them control over how you use broadcasts received by your television, radio and possibly personal computer and control over how those devices are designed and built."

[livejournal.com profile] velvet_mace: EVIL!!!! — "Evil comes in all forms, but I got to say, some evil really strikes my fancy more than others. // Starting from worst to best."

[livejournal.com profile] rhap_chan: Why CLAMP ficcers write slash — "Reading metafandom made me thoughtful, so I wrote a lengthy article about slash, its motivations, and its place in the CLAMP fandom. It might not make any sense, but I'm posting it for the record. // It may be a little controversial too, but I'm sure those in CLAMP fandoms can understand what I'm talking about."

[livejournal.com profile] darkhecatemoon: This is not the post you're looking for. — "Sort of relating to my beginning progress on my SMP, I wanted to start an experimental discussion about a subject that is quite pertinent to slash, but not very often talked about. // Note: I use Supernatural as an example here, but feel free to include other fandoms."

[livejournal.com profile] destina: RPS questions — "Hello, people who are into RPS of any flavor, but especially SPN RPS. I have some rookie RPS questions."

[livejournal.com profile] dawning_star: (CSI season finale spoilers in comments) — "Dear Fandom, // Ass-fucking does not a good story make. Neither does it solve all of a character's problems, nor will the character's friends and family necessarily care, one way or the other."

[livejournal.com profile] k_julia: What are your thoughts on... — "Here's something I've wanted to ask about for a while, a propos of absolutely nothing. // Titles: how important are they to you?"

[livejournal.com profile] j_crew_guy: Advice for prospective vidders. — "Disclaimer: I'm not a vidder (yet). The following are based on observations through the years of knowing vidders and seeing what they've gone through."
