[livejournal.com profile] linaerys - Fandom and flawed canon To complain or not to complain, that is the question. ... After my initial reaction, which boils down to, "If you don't want to read a rant, don't click on the cut tag that says 'A Rant,'" I started thinking about how differently us fans engage with our canon material. [SGA] Spoiler Warning 3x01-3x02

[livejournal.com profile] amireal - Query: re warnings Out of curiosity, what do the pro warning types assume when you see a fic without warnings.

[livejournal.com profile] estrella30 - fandom stuff So, you know. I can see the point of warnings, I can. But really, if you read something you're maybe not comfortable with, will you DIE? Is the world going to END? No. And you know what? Sometimes, reading something you maybe normally wouldnt have, might surprise you.

[livejournal.com profile] hotspur18 - Semantics and the reductio ad absurdum It's like the old adage: I do not agree with your opinion, but I will defend to the death your right to have it.// You notice the important word here? Opinion.// And opinion is different to hypothesis, theory, concept, idea, thesis, and all their little derivatives.

[livejournal.com profile] janissa11 - A fine distinction. There IS a difference between a story utilizing a broadly unpopular pairing, and outright BADFIC. The terms really aren't mutually inclusive.

[livejournal.com profile] rach74 - This argument appears to be doing the rounds YET again. Warnings are a good thing! // They provide a quick and simple way to help people choose a story that they might enjoy.

[livejournal.com profile] maygra - You don't have to be Ginger Rogers to learn how to dance With this being said, why don't I leave ConCrit? Because once upon a time I did and low and behold, I was chewed out by flists and the authors claiming that apparently *I* was the one that didn't have any taste. // To which I can only say that a.) I'm sorry you offered up valid criticism and had it turned around and against you. I wish it didn't happen that way but it does, and b.) One badly handled or even viciously out of proportion response is not representative of fandom, or even of people in fandom.

[livejournal.com profile] profshallowness - My big het poll (now with proper coding) Anyway, the comments from that discussion led to the questions of in this poll. I'm no social scientist, my biases and limitations will probably be rampant, and if you find yourself going 'Yes, but...' let me know in the comments. What I wanted to do was to have information for meta discussions about het, maybe even to initiate some more (civil!) discussion about why we het and who we het shippers are.
