General
[livejournal.com profile] thecaelum - Thoughts on fandom... - In fandom I learned to pick my battles. Doesn’t mean I always pick them appropriately, but I do try to involve myself in only those situations where I feel it serves a purpose. There are, however, a few things that just dig in under my skin, no matter who says it or where it originates.

[livejournal.com profile] saeva - A Few Thoughts On Social Denial - Yes, no one's really going to drive you out of fandom and there's a good chance they can't negatively impact your offline life, but as someone who spends a significant portion of her freetime in fandom? Making it unbearably uncomfortable is really all they have to do.

[livejournal.com profile] woman_of_ - Feminist Icons? - Feminism for me should be challenging societies perception that the traditional feminine roles are weak. It should force a change and gaining recognition for the important role of the wife and mother. Women and girls should not be encouraged to take over masculine traits to appear strong.

[livejournal.com profile] carolyn_claire - So, this anonymous posting thing. - Hate is bad. All of it. Hate hurts. Quit hating. Yeah. But anonymity, see, that's a different thing. That isn't about hate, or doesn't have to be; it's about expression and fear and people's comfort zones.

[livejournal.com profile] saeva - Icon Manifesto (Because this isn't wanky enough.) - Thus, the following covers the subject of the icon community in six parts: icon wank, tendencies in the icon community, techinical skill and how it sometimes works, the community itself in my experiences, the issues of copying and originality plus anonymous memes and truth, and finally a short section on elite communities.

Fandom-Specific Cut for possible spoilers in Brokeback Mountain and Three Penny Opera fandoms. )
