Fandom Meta

[livejournal.com profile] gaudior - On cultural appropriation this post appeared a few weeks ago in the blog Reappropriate, "a political, current events, and personal blog written from the perspective of a loud and proud Asian American woman": "Fuck you Asiaphile": I'm Mad As Hell And I'm Not Going to Take It Anymore. ... Now, as an undeniable otaku (looking up, I can see eight pieces of anime merchandising without having to turn my head), I was quite bothered. I could see myself as definitely being one of the people she was talking about, and I felt dismayed and unhappy to hear that my taste in art could upset anyone that much.

[livejournal.com profile] executrix - Ficathons: MetaRomCom! by analogy with "slashing the slasher," ficathons are a Writer/StoryOTP! RomCom. You know, with the meet-cute and the snark because "you two can't get along BECAUSE YOU'RE TOO MUCH ALIKE!" And the big kissup at the end.

[livejournal.com profile] ajhalluk - Literary Characters are not real people There seems to be another round going on of that rather tiresome assumption that someone can predict one's attitude to real-life issues (or Issues as they always seem to be described on lj) by looking at one's response to fictional people. [possible Sayers and Bujold spoilers]

[livejournal.com profile] viciouswishes - Woman in the Comic Store I am a woman who reads comic books. ... However, I haven't always felt comfortable going into comic shops. I've spent a lot of time and money at my hometown one, but never felt welcomed.

[livejournal.com profile] zortified - [So there are four kinds of stories] I've decided that the worst kind of story to encounter is the poorly written story with content that appeals, or would appeal if the darn thing were just written better.
