america vs the world... I've never rated a fic nc17 for it's violence. On the other hand, I'm very quick to rate a sexual fic nc17. Probably too quick sometimes, as most of my nc17 is very mild compared to a lot of other people's nc17 fics. But do you know why I think that is? Cause I'm American.

More thoughts on Another Hope-Gate Everyone knows that Lori Jareo's novel was a blatant violation of copyright. It is also a violation of Lucasfilm's SW trademarks as well (many people get copyright and trademark confused but they are two separate sets of intellectual property law). Now, every single icon, fan video, fan film, fan fiction, or fan web site is on its face a violation of copyright and trademark law. Very few, if any, of us got Lucasfilm's permission to make 650 icons or post our epics online. Lucasfilm tolerates what we do to a point because it knows it's in its interest to have an active fandom.

Snakes on a Plane, Fans on the Internet "Snakes on a Plane" has alot going for it as a film; the presence of Samuel L. Jackson, and one of the greatest movie titles in human history. However it also has something else going for it: online buzz that includes parodies, fansites, and merchandise. There film is even having scenes added, the rating changed, and may incorportate an element from one of the parodies.

What's so bad about haterness? So here's a philosophical question: what's so bad about being a hater? Especially in the way fandom is using the term these days.

[dead fandoms?] When does a fandom qualify as a dead fandom?
cugami:
dead fandom Contrary to what I think is popular belief, fandoms don't die.
kitsune_jade:
Random Ramblings, L5R, PoT vs HP, blah I don't think fandoms die. Look at LOTR, Star Wars, Star Trek. Sure they're not as active as most fandoms, but they are there. As long as there are people who love a series/book/movie/whatever, the fandom would remain.

Writing sex :) I’ve come to the conclusion that these scenes that I’ve had massive trouble with are all scenes that I really should be able to write—because I know how they should go—but they just don’t turn me, personally on—and I’m not sure that’s a good thing, because if I only write the sex scenes I am personally getting off on, I am shortchanging some of the POV characters...and not being a very good exemplar of “sex scenes should advance the plot or provide characterisation, or otherwise, why are they there?”

poll - kissing in fanfiction Last night I became (quite randomly) curious about how people picture fics as they're reading them. Specifically kissing scenes. [poll]
