Fandom Cookie Jar - When it comes to fannish endeavors, whether it's writing, icon-making, maintaining a fanlisting or debating if Harpo Marx was really an angry clown, there's no restitution involved. The coffers of fen are filled by feedback, comments and credit, growing membership or recognition of some sort. For something. Hence the use of the term BNF and all of the aforementioned things are cookies.

Pairing labels - First off: I hate the label "Sheppard/Teyla" (or its variants with other Atlanteans' last names). It's obnoxious enough that the locals/minorities get called by their first names while they use titles to the Atlanteans in canon; we don't need to reproduce that in the fandom.

Did I turn him into a girl? - This may be an old hat to experienced slashers, but I am fairly new to the slash thing and I am still working some things out in my head. Do you ever notice that in some fic one half of a slash pair seems feminized in some ways?

further discussion - What I mean by this is when someone sees a character cry or pout or bat his eye-lashes and they automatically point and shout "feminization". To me it is feminization if the character *doesn't* do those things in canon. If he does- then those things would not necessarily be feminizing the character.

The Eleventh Commandment - I was looking over my past entries and realized that when I did that post about Meta commandments and I missed a huge one, which is a big writing thing too, which is that you can't assume that your own life experience is universal.

Bad Fandoms and the Wrong Squee - I can't be the only person out there who's lost interest in source material either partially or wholly because of a bad experience with its fans.

[unfic] on dark, and also what I like about my own stuff - How do we get past pain and despair? What do we do for the rest of our lives? How, really, do we keep on keeping on?
Those are the questions that I think predominate in my mind, and I'm not nearly egotistic enough to think that my fic *answers* them, but sometimes, maybe, it does pose them.

On positive feedback - So if praise is addictive, and supposedly constructive criticism can be destructive, what are we supposed to do to encourage each other (and ourselves) to develop our skills? I think I do want to praise and be praised, but I want to give and receive praise that builds rather than undercuts initiative and creativity.
