General fandom meta

[livejournal.com profile] cesario: mentor/apprentice pairings, misogyny, and fandom - I have found that there is something about mentor/apprentice pairings, more than nearly anything else in fandom, that gives rise to misogyny by the bucketful. Misogyny is all over the place, but where May/December, mentor/apprentice pairings are dominant, there is, not merely a tendency, but an *insistence* on emasculating the woman.

[livejournal.com profile] fictualities: The sound of one hand clapping: a lurker's manifesto - For a long time now I've wanted to do a post about one of my minor vices: lurking -- but I've been stymied, or at least embarrassed, by the oxymoronic nature of this task. A post on lurking is like one of those paradoxes you learn about in Philosophy 101: All lurkers don't talk, I am a lurker, therefore I, erm. Um. What?

Writing, vidding, creating

[livejournal.com profile] paperiuni: The Ten Commandments of the Good Inuyasha Writer - The Ten Commandments of the Good Inuyasha Writer (most of which could be applied to fandoms on a more general scale)....These are not really in order of importance, because they cannot be rated so unambiguously. They are simply some of the pitfalls a striving author is likely to stumble upon -- or then acute cases of lazy (or stupid), but if you're here, I assume you're actually interested in how I think you could improve. As a writer.

[livejournal.com profile] regan_v: Learning a New Language: Writing Fiction and Non-fiction - I write non-fiction regularly in my RL, and I wanted to see how writing fic was different. It was like learning a new language.

[livejournal.com profile] ataniell93: About writing hot sex :) - A friend of mine asked me how to 'describe it all so it sounds hot'. This is what I told her. The secret to heat, in my personal opinion, is absolute IC-ness.
