Some thoughts on LiveJournal, not all entirely related. This is NOT a "good old days of mailing lists" post. Just some thoughts. .... And one more thing: We want our friends-list to post interesting things about fandom; we want to post pictures of our cats.

wondering about RPS I'm curious, for those who read actor RPS pairings or are familiar with that section of fandom, is the RPS pairing usually based on or derived from a fictional one? So that the two kinds seem somewhat interchangeable?

The Methos effect When I start reading in a fandom, I'm looking for a particular feeling, and so I'm going to go with the people that I trust to deliver on that, only to branch out later. So if they are writing something that's not-quite canon, that will be my first exposure to the universe, and it will be what I imprint on. It's the Methos effect.

the anti-harmony manifesto So it's not -just- opposites attracting that I'm drawn to-- it's any situation or pairing that provides conflict and utilizes stubbornness, misunderstanding, a clash of beliefs, disharmony and hopefully sheer antagonism.

Tonks, Shape-Shifters and Sense of Self / Identity (HP&hbp spoilers) I'm thinking about tonks for a little fic and wondering about her sense of self and identity. I don't know many in fiction because I avoid genres that are too close to what I write 'originally', but There's 3 kinds of shape shifters I can think of at the moment, and i think each would affect a persons's sense of self/identity differently: [HP]

Why I married my husband, Reason #4352/ Galactica S2 Thoughts Starbuck's growing hair seems to me to be part of the general trend of the series, and the reason that I didn't feel compelled to watch this season. I sort of hate the way that the series has become so "anatomy is destiny" as far as the female characters go, with the President's breasts being the source of religious inspiration, replacing her earlier logical leadership, and everything else now focused on baby making. Doctor Who - Genesis of the Daleks and meta I knew that the Daleks had been set up as the Nazis of the Whoverse, the mechanised evil that just keeps on coming. It's been years since I saw this episode, but the metaphor in this their origin story couldn't have been clearer without throwing in a few choruses of Horst Wessel and invading Poland. [DW]

Tubey Awards and an Ode to Kristen Bell Veronica also came in second as Best Badass, losing to SpyDaddy Jack Bristow of Alias, who got my vote. I love Veronica, but Best Badass? She's all of 90 pounds when she's soaking wet. Jack Bristow has ice water running through his veins and would shoot someone between the eyes without a second's hesitation. [VM]

Question A strange quirk of the writing where I mentally saw a curtain close with each of those last paragraphs. I had not thought of it, but she mentioned it felt adaptable to the screen, and I realized how right she was as the book reads closely like a screenplay or movie adaptation book. And while I held less charitable thoughts about why that was, she said some people simply see movies in their head as they write.

Tongue firmly in cheek Your turn. What story-type, plot, pairing, etc. do you think would garner the most feedback in your neck of the woods?

Um, yeah, this is me. Ranting. Yup. Had my Ranting Flakes this morning. Are you whining about your lack of feedback? Yes? Stop it! It’s annoying. You sound needy. And whiny. And shallow. And insecure. Stop. It.

Motherhood isn't sainthood I was thinking about the fourth seasons of Angel and Farscape, and I went off on my usual rant about motherhood. Here it is.
