Fandom Meta

[livejournal.com profile] suelac - the queer het discussion Queer het is when the characters actually think about or challenge our gender roles? . . . I'd just call that good het.

[livejournal.com profile] jennyo - Fandom's Hard Questions: Your Spoiler Virginity and You What the hell is it with the whole spoiler virgin thing? And when did it get as rampagingly insane as it is?

[livejournal.com profile] meyerlemon - One moment while I try to articulate something about slash Badfic is bad.

[livejournal.com profile] lobelia321 - and then they lived sadly ever after much as I love them, the sad endings (sad as in 'Man doesn't get his man' or 'Man loses his man') in slashy fanfic do not give me that same aesthetic satisfaction. I can appreciate them for being well done but deep down I long for the happy ending.

[livejournal.com profile] lifeinwords - The dog eats suckers. Also, on being differently fannish. So I had the whole conversation about 'What am I giving back to fandom? I don't post enough, I don't write/finish stories, why am I not a writer. . . . And I'm betting that I'm not the only person (perhaps a lurker who reads this LJ?) who feels this way off and on. Woe, I do not do enough, why are these people friending me when I'm not that interesting

[livejournal.com profile] violetsmiles - Fannish Identity? It's not that I believe that fanfic writing is the only way or even the best way to participate in fandom - I know I'm hella grateful for all the incredible icon makers, fanvid creators, mannipers, meta posters, episode revievers, and feedbackers - but it's not *my* thing, or, to be more precise, it's not The Thing. . . . And, for those of you that participate in fandom primarily through meta, episode reviews, or feedbacking, do you ever feel as though your fannish interaction is different because of it? Do most of the people you friend participate in fandom in a similar way?

[livejournal.com profile] carlanime - Notes on livejournal manners A lot of livejournal “conflicts” arise out of a confusion over what kind of “space” a livejournal is—is it a public forum, like a salon, or a private one, like your bedroom when you’re alone in it? Each livejournal user makes that determination for their own lj.

Skyehawke Debates

[livejournal.com profile] tienriu in [livejournal.com profile] skyehawke - Yet more clarifications on the Terms and Condition modifications with answers to common questions All right - there has been three days of kerfuffle and panic over the "Terms and Conditions" (aka "Terms of Service") modification. This post is intended to answer some of the common fears I keep seeing popping up everywhere so everybody can go back to writing rather than worrying. lots of links to discussions [4-11]

[livejournal.com profile] alchemia - Another opinion on the SkyeHawke changes Many people do what Skyehawke has done. Skyehawke’s action is just highly visible in the fandoms which is why its become the focus. I think they are well intentioned. I think most of the fandom is well intentioned. I think however we are highly conditioned by our culture/society and have a lot of fears, that we often act in ways that seem appropriate and responsible at the time, without realising why we think that they are, or where the idea comes from. [4-11]

[livejournal.com profile] tienriu - responses to various questions. I am not going to post this to the [livejournal.com profile] skyehawke, it'll be put here. Under cut tags. Sorry for spamming everybody's friends list. [4-12]

[livejournal.com profile] fluffyllama - Stop talking and start thinking So if you do not write, do not draw, do not place creative work of any sort in a public archive, I am equally not interested in hearing you tell people to stop moaning about the Skyehawke issue. You are entitled to an opinion, but I, personally, don't care if you think we should suck it up because it's really not all that bad. . . . It simply means you are not affected by this issue in any significant way. [4-12]

[livejournal.com profile] lolaraincoat - About Skyehawke So this is pretty soft-core censorship, and as the people who made up the policy keep explaining, it's not like the policy is likely to be invoked often (or ever) anyhow. But I still strongly object, on three grounds [4-12]

[livejournal.com profile] bethbethbeth - Re: skyehawke and other archve policies For those of you who use, might use, have used skyehawke: If this new policy had been in place when you received your invitation, do you think you would have taken much notice of it? I mean, any more than you do of any other pre-existing TOU/TOS for archives/services you use? [4-13]

[livejournal.com profile] kaiz - A very very weird viewpoint I see skyehawke as a free webhosting service, not an archive. . . . It's a very weird mental distinction, isn't it? Username+password = webhosting to me. Anonymous upload = archive to me. [4-13]

[livejournal.com profile] alchemia - I Deleted my Skyehawke Account [4-13]

Specific Fandom Meta

[livejournal.com profile] yhlee - Comments on "Salvage": Faith, leadership styles, caging symbolism, Dark!Wesley. The comments on "Salvage" have attracted a discussion on Faith and leadership styles, and my comments were getting too long, so... [AtS]

Polls

[livejournal.com profile] xochiquetzl - Define Your Terms and Poll Addendum slash, ship, gen, etc

[livejournal.com profile] gmth - Use of fandom newsletters I've been thinking about the fandom newsletters lately, and wondering about their impact on how people discuss fandom matters. I personally love the fandom newsletters, because they make the LJ HP community just a teensy bit smaller and point me to a lot of fascinating conversations I might have otherwise missed. I'm curious as to how other people view them. So, a poll!
