I just wanted to say a general thank you to the various fandom newsletters that often provide us with fandom-specific meta that we might otherwise have missed. In particular,
su_herald,
daily_snitch, and
galacticanews are amazing resources that fill in what our combined flists don't post or link. If you have any fandom-specific posts that may be of interest to readers beyond the fandom, please leave us a comment or send us an email at metafandom at gmail.comFandom Meta

this thing of ours And then I started thinking about how oddly *fitting* a term "this thing of ours" is for fandom, how similar in many ways it *is* to the mafia.

Idol Reflections at the Ruttin' Town Hall It's almost as if every fandom secedes from its "Established Church" to reform it--but immediately sets up its own Calvin-esque BNFs, followed shortly by burning its own Servetuses.

Monthly not-feeling-too-well ponderings on feedback:
"Commenting", to me, is what fandom uses in place of payment. It's a thank you note for inviting me over and offering me entertainment, and as with dinner parties, my host burning the roast doesn't get me off the hook.

[more on racism] I wrote this very long and rambling comment about race and fanfiction. I have like five different points I want to make...

spunoff x-files thoughts Genre TV of the 90s:
Why was there this Boom -- why were genre shows popular? Does it seem like the networks are really skittish about them now?

In defense of odd pairings So why don't I write in the OTPs? . . . It's just that…well, it's just all so obvious. The characters get a lot of screen time together, they play off each other, and there's text that can be read with homoerotic subtext in mind.

Fisting Supine White Ravens It really is asking for trouble to rant about something being impossible. . . . Nevertheless, there are things that are entirely possible, and with more than a single counter-example, that still don't sound *plausible.*

Escapade Con Report Forgotten Edition: I don't know that I have a point, but I have been thinking about slash as gendered space.

Insidious Sexism in House But there's a sexism in House that's less obvious . . . the sense that the writers seem incapable of putting an "ordinary" man in the hospital bed is starting to taste bad.

Clark and Lex God, I could sing right now, go all Virgilian and write an epic about arms and men, because I'm fangirling myself into ecstacy. Aren't they just so divine, so gorgeous, so in need of their ass kicked? I really do love them madly.

Drugs, Death and Deception: Thoughts on the shooting of Luther Mahoney If there's one issue that divides fans of Homicide: Life on the Street more than any other, it's got to be the Luther Mahoney shooting. Was it clean? Was it dirty? Does it matter? Almost

Rant: If It's Tuesday, I Must Be Whining Rant in multiple Parts:
I reel into the welcoming, porny arms of fandom (it's my metaphor and I can damn well fracture it if I wish, unlike certain violent-offender-obsessed people, who are not allowed to touch my metaphors, thanks), only to get. Well. Ranty.

an ode: [Ten things I've learned in fandom that I wouldn't know otherwise] LJ, or fandom, or whatever it is, has, at times, been the most personal and important thing in my life. It drives my fantasies, informs me of world events, molds my politics, provokes thoughtfulness, elevates my mood, questions my prejudices, stretches my intellect, introduces me to new ideas, invites self-exploration, shatters preconceptions.
