  • 2005-02-26: profshallowness: Whose fic is it anyway?: It always tickles me, though it is completely understandable, that we, as writers of fanfiction, get so insistent on the Author's rights* when we're talking about us.

  • 2005-02-26: toysdream: No Power On Earth Can Stop Me Now!!: So, I'm still ruminating on the relative handful of Buffy episodes that were actually written and/or directed by series creator Joss Whedon.


  • 2005-02-24: heres_luck: feminist community in Buffy: The title of Buffy the Vampire Slayer suggests a show with a single hero, as does the show's designation of Buffy as "the chosen one." A lot of academic critical commentary on the show has reproduced this emphasis on the individual by focusing on the figure of Buffy herself. But over the course of the series, the show has actually worked against that apparent individualism.

While the superficialities remain (twelve colonies with names derived from the Zodiac, the concept of origins at Kobol), the religious background and base seems to be shifting.

Dick: [livejournal.com profile] docmichelle, in a comment on [livejournal.com profile] morwen_peredhil’s episode review on [livejournal.com profile] 13th_colony makes an excellent point that Boomer and Six mimic human emotions pretty well but don’t seem to get the overarching essence of human feeling. (**possible US spoilers**) This, however, leaves open the question of why (and to what extent) they are mentally and emotionally different from humans.
