2005-02-26: profshallowness: Whose fic is it anyway?: It always tickles me, though it is completely understandable, that we, as writers of fanfiction, get so insistent on the Author's rights* when we're talking about us. 2005-02-26: toysdream: No Power On Earth Can Stop Me Now!!: So, I'm still ruminating on the relative handful of Buffy episodes that were actually written and/or directed by series creator Joss Whedon. 2005-02-24: heres_luck: feminist community in Buffy: The title of Buffy the Vampire Slayer suggests a show with a single hero, as does the show's designation of Buffy as "the chosen one." A lot of academic critical commentary on the show has reproduced this emphasis on the individual by focusing on the figure of Buffy herself. But over the course of the series, the show has actually worked against that apparent individualism. 2005-02-26: frogspace: Meta aus der Diaspora: On fandom and cultural colonisation.
2005-02-25: fernwithy: Purple vs. poetic... where do you draw the line?: Everyone, after all, hates purple prose. But what is it, honestly?
2005-02-26: rahirah:[cutting characters to fit]: The intriguing thing is that each of us has character types that we're so drawn to read or write that we will re-tool existing characters to get to them. [Buffy] 2005-02-25: ancarett: Speculations on Religion in Battlestar Galactica: it seems as if, along with Starbuck's gender, a lot has changed with the religion of the colonies in this remake. While the superficialities remain (twelve colonies with names derived from the Zodiac, the concept of origins at Kobol), the religious background and base seems to be shifting. 2005-02-26: 13th_colony: Cylons, Humans, and Philip K. Dick:
docmichelle, in a comment on
morwen_peredhil’s episode review on
13th_colony makes an excellent point that Boomer and Six mimic human emotions pretty well but don’t seem to get the overarching essence of human feeling. (**possible US spoilers**) This, however, leaves open the question of why (and to what extent) they are mentally and emotionally different from humans. 2005-02-26: wisteria_: Veronica Mars: A Love Letter.: So, why do I love Veronica Mars so much? 2005-02-26: carlanime: CSI and the kerfuffle on TWOP: Over at Television Without Pity, the placeholder for the latest CSI recap is a TWOP ACTION ALERT. A TWOP action alert? Did I miss the part where they became an NGO? 2005-02-26: fanthropology: Sporking, MSTing, and mocking in Fandom: How do folks feel about MSTing, Sporking, and other such activities? Are they ever wrong or ever right? Where have you seen flamewars occur because of or with this? 2005-02-23: hpslash: WHY SLASH? Snape/Harry? or Draco/Harry? Or not?: Q. When you first came across a good slash story, were you surprised you even enjoyed it?[HP]
