Admin note: During extended livejournal outages, metafandom can be found on GreatestJournal and on JournalFen. Last night during the outage we posted a Special Blackout Edition of metafandom to each of these communities, including links to information on the blackout as well as a handful of meta posts on other journaling sites.

I'd also like to recommend Insane Journal. I know that crossposting is a pain, but the jury is still out on preferred site. I think overall JF and GJ may have more people but both sites have basic service issues. JF vanishes periodically and GF is slow. IJ is the most up to date LJ clone and it's got a relatively fast response time.

In case it would be helpful, Semagic can now post to multple journals at once. Snapetoy posted these instructions (http://www.greatestjournal.com/users/snapetoy/16797.html) over on GF. Now I just crosspost everything to all four journal services so I've got all my back-ups in place.

      We actually don't have plans to crosspost to any of the other journaling services at the moment, in part because it would require significant coding changes to get all the links (such as those to usernames) to work properly. The journals at greatestjournal and journalfen are simply backups in case of livejournal outages or other crisis. I believe this was actually the first time we'd used either of them.

      The username metafandom at insanejournal is actually already taken. Someone set it up as a (nonfunctional it looks like) feed of the metafandom community here on lj. We may set up a metafandom back up journal over there at some point, but we'd obviously have to choose a different name for it in order to do so.
