quasiradiant: thoughts on that race-in-fic meme. - to me, a "character of color" is a character who would recognize him/herself as a member of a minority race considering the time/place/etc. of the story he/she has found him/herself in. -
hesychasm: keeping myself honest, part II - But speaking as a person of color, I am not comfortable with using the lack of minority characters or minority actors as an excuse not to write about them. -

To me it was definitely intended to be about fandom. There has been much talk about race in fandom lately. A lot of these discussions make generalized statements about black people/white people/people of color.
I have found discussion on some of these matters to be somewhat inaccessible at times and I wondered if there could be some misunderstandings. That people talk about "black" and "white" (at least potentially collective terms) while threy really just mean the US situation.

The first is about the bias of the census meme and isms in canon source (contextual) versus fannish interpretation (metatextual). It can be found .
The second follows up on that by discussing anti-intellectualism, using the show Eureka as a case study within the scifi genre itself. Here (http://verstehen.livejournal.com/333403.html). (http://verstehen.livejournal.com/333273.html)
