I don't expect you to write Ronon the same way you'd write Rodney, man. I just expect you to use the same tools to craft Ronon's character that you used to craft Rodney's.

The only thing we can do, most of the time, is be aware of that fact, to have our eyes open, to think about the ways it makes our lives-- and the lives of those around us, and the lives of the characters we write-- easier or harder.

For me, fics that include incest need to either address the consequences of the act ... , OR have a sufficient distance from reality as we know it that that distance serves as the real-world-wrong disclaimer.

The tall, muscular, no-body-fat physiques of the Winchesters suggest that they have amazing furnace metabolisms -- they eat cheeseburgers like most people eat toast, and you cannot pinch an inch on those waists.

If you're a reader who prefers receiving replies to your feedback, do you tend to leave more detailed feedback? What types of replies do you prefer to receive ...? What other variables affect your participation in the feedback/reply cycle?

a community of women writing women in homosexual relationships isn't going to end up working through the issues as a community (the same community, in many cases) of women writing men in homosexual relationships.

So here's a question for you to ponder with me, if you like. Has fandom moved from an open-enrollment system to something else, and if it has, can we (or should we, or might we) bring it back to a more democratic model?

Does anyone else see the disconnect here? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? I don't get this. If one person's post is off-limits to negative comments just because they asked not to hear it, then so is the other's.

If it were written well, you could totally convince me that Ronon would make an amazing accountant who does origami in his spare time. But! who honestly puts that much thought into a secondary character for an OTP fic?

You never know if something is relevant unless you ask.
As an aside, I'm not in the fandom but I have been devouring the discussions 'cause I'm a meta-whore. I didn't discuss the SGA angle because I didn't feel passionate enough about it. But dissin' my chosen career? Youbetcha. ;-)
You guys do an awesome job. Thanks!
