None of these things will be so on television. (Maybe on British television, where social class markers are much more openly portrayed...) It's awkward, trying to posit social reality in the face of details that will never be realistic.
The point here is that context, the situation that prompts someone to speak (I like the word \"exigency,\" myself; it just sounds nifty), is key to shaping the utterance and thus key to decoding it. In other words, you have to know what prompted something t
My thought was this: that the strongest concentration of traits from that particular \"Romance Heroine\" role grab-bag tends to cluster around the most popular fannish access character.
But my question for you is: what do you think someone's (fictional character) kink/vanilla preferences are, staying as close to canon as possible? That is - if the show were going to give us a real peek, what would make the most sense, based on everyythin
Both at my panel and in the SGA blowup, I saw two related and extremely annoying responses. ... In short, white people asked for a ghetto pass.
Russell T. Davies has pointed out that Primeval is too white:
I adore Rentboy!fic. I don't know why, I just do. Everything politically correct in me tells me I shouldn't. My own experiences with researching this essay tell me that there is not a lot of correlation between the real life sex industry and rentboy!fic.
... white people telling me that I’m imagining racism and racial issues feels much like a woman trying to discuss feminism with a man and the man asking if it’s her time of the month when she tries to explain, ...
One of the reasons that I see held up to why characters of color get written less than white characters is that, because of the racist nature of TV, movies, comics, etc, the characters of color we get in canon are less fleshed out ...
It may be that you think you don't like AUs - well come on in anyway, you might discover a type of AU that you actually do enjoy.... // (Let me state for the record, that this is not a re-hash of the SGA AU/racism debate.
I would be interested to know what people get out of the beta process. Go on, take out the last story you had beta'd and check out the comments. ... What overall did you learn... ?

You can't see this from the front page of the community, but it's visible in the individual entries. And... from the community's front page/"recent entries" view, it looks like there's meant to still be

The first time I saw it like this I thought there was an error in posting. I always thought how professional and easy to read MF looked. So clear you could glance down it and see what was there and what was of interest, but this is really difficult to read, not user-friendly at all, and tends to make me simply skip the post rather than try to read it :-(

I must say that I do respect and understand completely your decision to make the changes, and would also like to add that I think you do a marvellous job, all of you - thank you for it. However, I also have to say that I really hate the changes. I do think the professionalism and ease of being able to see posts of interest has now gone. It's very clumsy, to my eyes.
However, change is always difficult at first, so I hope that in a little while it will just be part of the normal daily experiences. But at the moment I'm really sad that you've been forced into doing it.
But I repeat I do understand and respect your decisions. It must take up a lot of your time.

I disagree with your opinion and, frankly, *removes mod hat* I'm pretty bummed by your comment here. You don't have to like it, but coming back to tell me, again, that the removal of a bolded header saying "General Fandom" makes the community clumsy and unprofessional and makes you sad, well, that makes me sad. Which I guess was the point so hurray for you. :(

Having gone to great lengths to point out that I understood and respected your decision, I'm to use your words pretty bummed that you have taken this reaction to what I felt was a fair comment.
I'd hoped that the remove of the excess white space would make a difference to it; really I did, but as it didn't. I thought that you were open to comments. Clearly you are not.
I'm very sorry that you feel that way about it. My intention was not at all how you seem to think it was.
And it's far more than the removal of one header saying 'General Fandom'. But don't worry I won't trouble you again.
All I can repeat is that I am very sorry that I have upset you and made you think that my intention was to do so. It was not. Not at all. And I hoped indeed thought my comments showed that.

I am open to comments, I think. I feel like I've always tried really hard to be open to comments about the community, and the way it works from day to day. And sometimes that does mean making a decision one way or another, because somebody has to be that person, but I do feel like I generally try to listen to everyone's point of view.
I'm sorry you feel bummed. I really am. I feel bummed too. I am a person, as well as a moderator, and sometimes, you know, it gets me down.
How about we leave it there, eh? No hard feelings. Have a banana. :)

I regret what I said too, and although I thought I'd phrased it well, looking back. Well . . . Isn't hindsight wonderful?
And really I'm sorry that you feel bummed too. I know what it's like to be a moderator and yes, we are people.
Please let's do that. And none at all. Banana duly and happily accepted. How about an apple for you?
